SK Telecom Wins Small Cell Industry Award for Commercial Deployment of LTE Small Cells with Contela Products Built on Mindspeed Solution
Leadership in Small Cell Technology for Korean Market Honored for a Second Consecutive Year
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NAS: MSPD) , a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that it has been honored with SK Telecom and Contela with a Small Cell Industry Award for 'Innovation in Commercial Deployment (Operator)' at the 2013 Small Cell World Summit in London. The award singles out SK Telecom's public access small cell network for its groundbreaking success over the last year.
SK Telecom rolled out their first wave of LTE small cells in June 2012 and has achieved global recognition for their network architecture featuring Contela's LTE small cell technology -- powered by Mindspeed®'s Transcede® system-on-chip (SoC) processor. In addition to the business case for the deployment, technical highlights that the judges considered with the entry included advanced voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) capabilities, interference mitigation, quality of service (QoS) assurance and increased throughput at the cell edge.
"Mindspeed's system-on-chip technology has enabled many of the winning entries at the Small Cell Industry Awards over the years," said Raouf Y. Halim, Mindspeed's chief executive officer. "We are honored to be recognized with SK Telecom and Contela for our success in the dynamic Korean market and for our contribution to what is arguably the world's benchmark for commercial LTE small cell deployment."
"The award is recognition of SK Telecom's strenuous efforts to further enhance customers' mobile experience," said Choi Jin-sung, Executive Vice President and Head of ICT R&D Division of SK Telecom. "With the application of innovative small cell technologies, we are offering service of the highest reliability in all LTE coverage areas. We will also continue to make efforts to realize next-generation mobile technologies, including LTE Advanced, to maximize customer value and benefits."
Now in their fifth year, the Small Cell Industry Awards have established an enviable reputation based on their absolute impartiality and integrity. With no sponsorship linked to awards and an entirely independent judging panel made up of well informed and highly respected industry experts, the awards are designed to recognize and celebrate outstanding achievements in the industry.
