Las Vegas Inks Contract with Motorola Solutions for Long-Anticipated Interoperable Police Communications Network
Metropolitan Police to gain mission-critical voice communications from one end of Strip to the other, as well as throughout city, Clark County with new Project 25 (P25) digital radio system
SCHAUMBURG, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYS: MSI) , a leading provider of innovative, mission-critical communication solutions and services for government customers, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (METRO), today announced a $26 million contract for the implementation of an ASTRO®25 mission-critical Phase 2 700 MHz digital radio system that will expand P25 interoperability throughout Clark County and Southern Nevada.
A Motorola ASTRO 25 700 MHz simulcast trunking network for the Las Vegas metropolitan area and a Motorola ASTRO 25 700 MHz trunking network for Clark County will enable interoperability and better coordination between METRO officers and other agencies in Southern Nevada. The communications system will also include Motorola APX™mobile and portable radios, upgraded dispatch equipment and helicopter radios.
- The 31-site ASTRO 25 trunking system will deliver reliable and always-available communications to METRO officers, using a dynamic architecture that meets current needs and can be adapted to easily add coverage, capacity and new capabilities as Las Vegas' requirements evolve.
- Las Vegas is using Motorola's award-winning APX series of P25 mission-critical radios, including nearly 3,000 APX 6000 and 100 APX 7000 portable radios, and about 2,000 APX 6500 and 100 APX 7500 mobile radios. METRO officers will benefit from APX capabilities that include loud, clear audio and optimal functionality for better interoperable communications, improved mobility, officer safety and response time.
- The new Las Vegas system also includes interoperability with new radios being installed in seven police helicopters, allowing police in the air to communicate with officers on the ground to provide optimum logistical air and land support for emergency responses.
- The communications system also includes upgraded computer -aided dispatch (CAD) and field mobile capabilities, as well a new digital logging solution. Las Vegas will also be equipping 37 operator positions with the Motorola MCC 7500 IP Dispatch Console and 60 operator positions with the Motorola MCC 7100 IP Dispatch Console. These enhancements will help ensure seamless integration into the ASTRO 25 system and allow emergency calls to be prioritized to connect no matter how busy the network.
