‘Star Wars’ dad records daughter’s reaction to iconic franchise twist: 'I remember my first time'

It’s one of the biggest plot twists in cinematic history. Darth Vader, a mass murderer, reveals to Luke Skywalker, the earnest, hopeful hero, that he is his father. Luke is stunned — not only is his father alive, but he’s Luke’s mortal enemy who has been fighting him the whole time.

The climax of 1980’s “The Empire Strikes Back” blew the audience’s minds when it first played in theaters. Even some of the cast was thrown by the admission because both director George Lucas and writer Lawrence Kasdan kept it a secret.

“We wrote fake pages, all different pages,” Kasdan told Entertainment Weekly. “The cast didn’t have the pages until the last second.”

40 years later, most people — even if they’ve never seen a “Star Wars” movie — know about the twist. It’s referenced throughout pop culture and is ranked as one of the greatest film quotes of all-time. It’s hard to avoid the spoiler.

But Christian Perez was able to find one person who didn’t know what was coming. Perez recorded his daughter Anabella’s reaction to watching the famous scene for the first time ever and posted it to YouTube before it went viral enough to travel to Reddit.

Anabella’s eyes widen and her draw drops as she realizes the connection between Darth Vader and Luke.

Most responses were jealous that Anabella was able to watch the scene without knowing anything.

“It makes me so sad that I never got to experience the plot twist,” one commenter replied.

“I wish I could have experienced in real-time rather than growing up already knowing,” someone else agreed.

“How this person was about to keep their kid from hearing this in a pop culture reference is kind of incredible,” a third user said.

Others had a more emotional reaction to the clip.

“About 2 years ago I watched the original trilogy with my son and he had a very similar reaction. He was 7 at the time. One of my favorite memories,” someone commented.

“I just finished watching the final episode of clone wars, sobbed my heart out, finally felt a bit better then I open reddit to THIS? I need more tissues,” a big “Star Wars” fan said.

“Seeing their reaction to this reveal is one of the reasons I can’t wait to have kids,” another fan replied.
