‘Jeopardy!’ contestant mocked over ‘unforgivable’ wrong answer: ‘What world is this?’

A “Jeopardy!” contestant is being ridiculed by music fans after making an “unforgivable” on-air mistake.

The now-viral mishap occurred on the April 29 episode of the game show, during a round of questions based on the Billboard Music Awards. One of those questions proved particularly difficult for one contestant, Alwin Hui, who ultimately confused a video of Janet Jackson for singer Ariana Grande.

“As the recipient of the 2018 Icon Award, she took ‘control’ & took to the stage in her first live TV performance in nearly a decade,” the question, which was followed by a brief clip of Jackson’s performance, stated.

Hui quickly buzzed in first and guessed Ariana Grande, after which host Alex Trebek simply replied, “No.” Another contestant, Sarah Jett Rayburn, then buzzed in with the correct answer.

The exchange led to outrage and confusion from several of Jackson’s fans, who failed to see how Hui could make such a mistake. Jackson is 53 and African American while Grande is 26 and of Italian descent.

Several of Jackson’s fans took to social media to criticize Hui, expressing both lighthearted jokes and serious disdain.

“I just watched a guy named Alwin on Jeopardy! call Janet Jackson Ariana Grande. What world IS THIS?!?!?” one Twitter user wrote.

“This guy just said Janet Jackson is Ariana Grande…i’m speechless,” another added.

“Absolutely unforgivable lmao,” another added.

The musical mix-up came just a few weeks after another viral wrong answer, in which multiple contestants failed to remember the name of the song “Shallow” from the 2018 film, “A Star Is Born.”

That question, which some social media users called the “easiest Final Jeopardy question ever,” asked contestants to name a “recent movie song” that was both a duet and had remained on the Billboard charts a year after its release.
