E! host Morgan Stewart utilizes her own activewear brand to make 7,500 masks for hospital workers

Towards the beginning of her time in quarantine, Morgan Stewart knew she wanted to use her position of influence to help those on the front lines of the pandemic.

While brainstorming ideas for giving back with her team, the co-host of E!‘s popular “Nightly Pop” series realized that the factory for her Morgan Stewart Sport activewear collection already had surgical masks to protect employees, so why not utilize that resource to donate masks to those who really need them right now?

In early April, Stewart did just that — donating 7,500 medical masks on behalf of Morgan Stewart Sport and LA Collective to the UCLA relief fund to help fight COVID-19.

“I’m somebody that always wants to be involved and on the forefront of these things and take action and in a way that’s helpful, but I always am so busy with other things that I always feel a little bit overwhelmed and want to make sure whatever impact I’m trying to make is going to actually help people,” Stewart said during a recent interview with In The Know’s Gibson Johns.

“I was tossing around the ideas with the team from Morgan Stewart Sport, and they had surgical masks in the factory already because, when the workers are making the leggings and the bras and stuff, they have to wear them,” she went on. “It was just this perfect, organic moment that just came together.”

“Everybody just sort of breathed this sigh of relief,” Stewart added. “I was so happy to be able to help in that capacity, so we got in touch with UCLA and we were able to drop off 7,500 masks, which I was so happy about.”

The TV host, who first came to prominence as a cast member on the reality show “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills,” didn’t want that bulk donation to be a one-and-done deal, so she turned it into an opportunity for her namesake brand to spread the wealth, so to speak, going forward.

“That was really one of those moments where I was like, ‘Wow, you can really make a difference and help some people.’ It just worked out,” Stewart explained. “Now we have a buy one, donate one [offer].”

Morgan Stewart Sport is now producing seamless face masks that are available for purchase on its website. When customers buy one, the brand will donate another one to the United Way Pandemic Relief Fund.

“I didn’t want to just continuously donate the masks to the same place — obviously, there [are] so many different companies, people and whatever walks of life that need different things — so we partnered with United Way, which really focuses on underprivileged people and people who are homeless. And so, you buy one mask on LA Collective — Morgan Stewart Sport, and then we donate another mask with the one that you bought.”

“I feel very grateful to be able to help in the way that we have, because I have to say, it’s been an effort, but it has also been pretty effortless at the same time,” Stewart added. “We had materials. We were able to put something together. It’s just really been amazing. I think we sold, like, 1,700 masks in the first four hours of it being live.”

While she admitted that giving back and donating the resources that she has at her disposal isn’t about the response to it, Stewart did note that reactions to initiative have been “pretty overwhelming,” especially because “there’s no guidebook or rule book” for how to act in a time of need.

“You’re not supposed to always know the right thing to do,” she told ITK. “It’s been really nice and sort of awoken me to a place where it’s like, ‘Yeah. You can be doing this consistently in all sorts of different ways in your life.'”
