‘Spy Kids’ stars Daryl Sabara and Alexa PenaVega reunite and reminisce on Instagram Live

“Spy Kids” stars Daryl Sabara and Alexa PenaVena reunited virtually to chat about the franchise that kickstarted their careers.

The virtual reunion was arranged by Meghan Trainor, Sabara’s wife. After rewatching the first film in the four-movie franchise, Trainor invited PenaVega to join her and Sabara in an Instagram Live chat about the Robert Rodriguez films.

During the Instagram Live, Sabara and PenaVega reminisced about filming the four iconic movies. Then, each of them showed off the memorabilia they still have from set.

First, PenaVega revealed that she has the silver lunchbox from the movie “on display in the office” at her house. “It is super beat up, but one day my kids will appreciate that,” she said.

Next, Sabara showed off his memorabilia: one of his character’s costumes from “Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams.” During the Instagram Live, he thanked Trainor’s parents — his “amazing in-laws” — for framing the costume so he could hang it up on the wall.

“I might steal the in-law idea because that’s so awesome,” PenaVega said when she saw Sabara’s framed costume.

Though Sabara and PenaVega have stayed in touch over the years, the Instagram Live marked the first time that Trainor met PenaVega, according to BuzzFeed.
