Matthew McConaughey hosts virtual bingo for seniors in quarantine

Matthew McConaughey provided seniors in quarantine with some unexpected entertainment — and it wasn’t one of his hit movies.

The Academy Award-winning actor hosted a virtual bingo game for residents at The Enclave at Round Rock Senior Living in Texas, enthusiastically reading out winning numbers via video chat.

In the lively video, McConaughey’s wife, mom and kids crowded around his computer to cheer for the participants. The seniors each appeared on individual screens — some beamed at the camera while others stayed focused on their bingo cards.

The facility shared footage of the bingo night to their Facebook page.

Last September, residents at The Enclave dressed as various McConaughey characters to request he (and his mom) join them for a celebrity bingo night.

“You’d be a whole lot cooler if you did,” one resident said, referencing the actor’s famous quote from the movie “Dazed and Confused.”

McConaughey didn’t get to visit in-person because of social distancing orders, but residents were overjoyed he made a virtual appearance.

Molly Davis Nedley, sales director at the facility, told KEYE-TV that the McConaughey’s bingo night was “a wish come true.”

“The residents absolutely loved seeing Matthew and his family and enjoyed hearing him talk about what he’s doing to get through this crisis,” she said. “It gave them hope and was the boost that they needed to get through this lonely, challenging time.”
