Kaia Gerber kicks off her Instagram book club with millennial love story, ‘Normal People’
Put a pause on Netflix and Hulu, because Kaia Gerber just launched her Instagram Live book club –– and we’re totally invested.
The 18-year-old supermodel might be known to shut down a Chanel show, however with fashion on a halt, Kaia is pivoting her talents to showcasing her favorite novels to her 5.4 million Instagram followers.
“I know we are all feeling isolated right now, so I was trying to think of easy ways we can stay connected (beyond just scrolling) and decided i’m gonna start a book club. i read a lot on my own, but would love to be able to talk to you guys about it… so every week i’m gonna post a book to my stories and the following week i’ll jump on live (sometimes with a friend, writer, guest etc.) so we can all talk about the book that week!…” she explained on her account.
Kaia kicked off the book club on Instagram Live with a teenage romance novel called “Normal People” by Irish author Sally Rooney. The New York Times Bestseller goes behind the infatuated and complex love story of Connell and Marianne, who share different backgrounds, but grew up in the same small town. It sold nearly 64,000 hardcover copies the U.S. in its first four months of release in 2018. A year later, it was ranked 25 on The Guardian’s list of the 100 best books of the 21st century.

Emily Ratajkowski and Lena Dunham also count themselves fans of the book. And thanks to the its worldwide success, Hulu adapted the story into a series (debuting April 29th), starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal. Edgar-Jones and Mescal actually appeared on the Instagram Live, where Kaia interviewed them.
“There’s parts where you’re reading the book and you just want to grab them and shake them…”Kaia revealed during her live stream.
