Brad Pitt wore a name tag to an Oscars event, and for some reason it's very endearing

You've gotta love a bit of humility.

Many of this year's Academy Award hopefuls gathered Monday for the annual Oscars Nominee Luncheon, and most politely declined the name tags offered at the door — except for Brad Pitt, inarguably one of the most recognizable faces on the planet.

Upon entering the event, Pitt gamely pinned his assigned name tag to his gray suit. The laminated label read "Brad Pitt: Best Supporting Actor, Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood."

Understandably, Pitt's co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, who's up for Best Actor, decided to forgo the name tag, as did fellow top nominees Charlize Theron, Renee Zellweger, Laura Dern and Cynthia Erivo. (Let's be honest, who among us would stick a pin through outfits as expensive as any of theirs? Please.)

That said, Pitt wasn't the only famous figure to sport a name tag. "Marriage Story" director Noah Baumbach had one pinned to his lapel, as did Disney CEO Bob Iger. Probably not necessary. But a nice thought!

The luncheon reportedly began on a reflective note as attendees observed a moment of silence for Kobe Bryant, his daughter and the several other individuals killed in a helicopter crash just miles away the day before. Bryant himself was an Oscar winner for his 2018 short "Dear Basketball."

Pre-Oscars events will continue to be on the upswing over the next two weeks until the actual ceremony unfolds on Sunday, Feb. 9. Although Pitt's Golden Globes and SAG wins make him a frontrunner for his category, he faces competition from four true screen legends: Tom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci.
