Grammys 2020: John Legend, Roddy Rich and others pay tribute to Nipsey Hussle

Even in his death, Nipsey Hussle is making sure the Marathon continues.

On Sunday, Hip Hop and R&B's biggest stars came together at this year's Grammy Awards to pay tribute to the late rapper.

The Los Angeles native, formally known as Ermias Jospeh Asghedom, lost his life on March 31, 2019, after being shot multiple times in the parking lot of his store, The Marathon Clothing on Slauson Avenue. Nipsey's surprising passing led to an outpour of love and support on social media from celebrities and fans alike.

Ava DuVernay, who used one of Hussle's songs in her critically-acclaimed series "When They See Us," introduced the performance. "Tonight we celebrate the enduring memory of an artist and a leader who made brave, brilliant strides to unite this community here in Los Angeles and around the world," the director said.

Take a look at photos from the tribute in the slideshow below:

Philly rapper Meek Mill began the performance with a rendition of one of Hussle's hits. He was followed by rap newcomer Roddy Rich and YG who both emotionally delivered another single. The two tossed the dedication to DJ Khaled and John Legend who teamed up with Kirk Franklin to close out the touching tribute with a soulful medley of "Higher."

The moving performance comes hours after fellow Los Angeles idol Kobe Bryant tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash that took the lives of eight others including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna. The artists also recognized the former Laker with a photo of both Nipsey Hussle and Bryant.

Hussle was nominated for three posthumous Grammy Awards. His single, “Racks in the Middle” took home the award for best rap performance and "Higher" won for best rap/sung performance.
