Meghan Markle's father says she and Harry 'owe' him: 'It's time to look after daddy'

Meghan Markle's estranged father has some jarring words for his daughter as he opens up about their relationship in a new interview.

Speaking with Britain's Chanel 5 for "Thomas Markle: My Story," he called Meghan and Harry's decision to step away from the royal life "ridiculous."

"She actually got every girl's dream,'' he said.

"Every young girl wanted to become a princess, and she got that, and now she's tossing that away for — it looks like she's tossing it away for money," he continued. "Apparently $3 million and a 26-bedroom home isn't enough for them."

"They're turning into a Walmart with a crown on it now,'' he later added.

The former television lighting director also opened up about the backlash he received from the staged paparazzi photos ahead of the royal wedding, and how a heart attack left him unable to attend.

"At this point, they owe me. The royals owe me. Harry owes me, Meghan owes me," Markle explained.

"What I've been through I should be rewarded for. My daughter told me that when I reach my senior years she'll take care of me. I'm in my senior years now – it's time to look after Daddy."

Markle, unable to attend his daughter's nuptials, cried after seeing the Prince of Wales replace him in walking the duchess down the aisle.

"My daughter looked beautiful. I wish that I could have been there with her. I was certainly appreciative Charles was there. I admit I cried a bit about that. To this day I can't forget that moment."

The 90-minute television special also includes never-before-seen home videos and photos of Meghan with her parents. Markle says he was "knocked out" by Meghan's beauty as a newborn and that he always knew she was destined for stardom.

"When she was born I couldn’t have been happier," he said.

"They handed her to me, I saw her face, her little fingers wrapped around my fingers and that was it, I was in love. I just knew she was going to be special. I was just knocked out by that child. She was just beautiful and I just couldn’t put her down."

Markle also discussed the judgment the family faced for mixed race, an experience that Markle says continued for his daughter even in London.

"People would look at Doria like she was a housekeeper," Markle attained. "It wasn't fair. Of course, it wasn't fair."

"I think she's going through the same problem right now with the royals. I don't think they know where to place her. She always looks scared. She always looks like a deer in the headlights."
