Tom Hanks goes viral for priceless reaction to Ricky Gervais' joke at Golden Globes

Tom Hanks has gone viral for his hilarious reaction to a joke comedian Ricky Gervais made during his opening monologue at the 77th Golden Globes.

The Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning actor, who is set to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his illustrious Hollywood career, was caught on camera grimacing when Gervais jokingly asked award winners to avoid bringing attention to social causes on the stage. The joke appeared to fall flat with Hanks, who is known for his philanthropy and charitable work.

"Accept your award, thank your agent, thank God and f*** off," Gervais told the crowd.

Twitter immediately took notice of Hanks's response and couldn't get enough of it.

"We were all Tom Hanks during Ricky Gervais opening monologue," one person tweeted.

"None of these celebs want to be caught laughing on camera at ricky gervais especially not tom hanks," another wrote.

"So far, the best moment was Tom Hanks' less-than-impressed reaction to Ricky Gervais' stumbling his way through that opening monologue," a third tweeted.

This isn't the first time Hanks made headlines for reacting to one of Gervais's jokes. In 2011, Gervais took a jab at Tim Allen when the latter co-presented with Hanks at the Golden Globes Awards.

"I came out and said, 'Our next two presenters, the first has won five Oscars, combined box office of five billion dollars. And the other, Tim Allen,'" he recalled in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.

Following their joint appearance, both Hanks and Allen took their own shots at Gervais.

"We recall when Ricky Gervais was a slightly chubby but very kind comedian," Hanks said before Allen interrupted and said, "Neither of which he is now."
