'Project Runway' contestant catches host Karlie Kloss off-guard with Kushner comment: Watch

This week's episode of "Project Runway" featured an awkward moment that has since gone viral on social media.

During this week's deliberation for a challenge that involved the show's contestants designing potential looks for host Karlie Kloss to wear to an upcoming CFDA event in Paris, Kloss asked Tyler, one of the contestants, "So, you're happy with your look?"

"I'm happy with it. I don't know if you love it, or if you hate it," he responded. "Whatever it is, lay it on me. I'm ready."

That's when judge and professional designer Brandon Maxwell went through the things that Kloss and stylist Karla Welch were looking for in the winning ensemble: "super cool," "wearable" and "chic."

"It's definitely 'wearable' in some place that is neither Paris nor Montauk or Martha's Vineyard," Maxwell said, repeating the places that Tyler had named as locales he could see Kloss wearing his design. "I cannot see Karlie wearing it anywhere, honestly."

That's when Tyler lashed out at the judges.

"Not even to dinner with the Kushners?" he said to gasps from the contestants and turned heads from the judges. "That's your husband!"

Kloss married her longtime boyfriend Joshua Kushner last fall. The supermodel has rarely publicly acknowledged the fact that her husband's brother is Jared Kushner, who is married to Ivanka Trump and has been a key figure in the Trump presidency for the last three years.

"Um, I was going to Paris," she said, shellshocked by Tyler's response. "That was the challenge here. Keep it to the challenge."

"I could see you wearing it at some point," he said back to Kloss.

"You may not know, but I know. I know that this is not what I asked for," she said sternly. "You really missed the mark on all accounts."

Backstage, one of Tyler's competitors declared, "I'm gonna throw up. Literally might be sick."

Tyler's look ended up being the judges' least favorite, resulting in his elimination from the competition.

As mentioned above, Kloss has been tight-lipped about her connection to the Trump family via her marriage to Kushner. In an interview with British Vogue in July 2019, however, she addressed the elephant in the room.

"It’s been hard," she said. "But I choose to focus on the values that I share with my husband, and those are the same liberal values that I was raised with and that have guided me throughout my life."
