Kim Kardashian says she has one important thing in common with Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle has found a sympathetic supporter in another one of the world's most famous women.

In the year and a half since she joined the royal family, the Duchess of Sussex has struggled with the intense spotlight and harsh criticism of her behaviors and actions. It's a level of fame achieved by few, and one person in particular has a pretty comparable understanding of the daily difficulties.

"I can definitely empathize with their ... need for having a secure, safe place and taking time for themselves and having privacy when they need it," Kim Kardashian reportedly said during an interview on Australian program "The Sunday Project."

At 39, Kim is less than a year older than Meghan, and both are protective mothers in high-profile relationships. But she noted that there are, of course, major differences between their situations: "I don’t think anyone can really understand what that’s like except for them," she said.

Although both ladies are tabloid favorites, their paths haven't publicly crossed. By the time Meghan landed her starring role on "Suits" in 2011, Kim K. was already one of the most talked-about stars in Hollywood thanks to the massive success of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."

Meghan's budding career had earned her a fan following, but it wasn't until she began dating Prince Harry that she became, like Kim, one of the most recognizable faces in the world. Prince Harry has lambasted the press for becoming too intrusive, saying Meghan's volatile relationship with the press has become comparable to that of his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

"I think everyone has their own journey," Kim said of the royal couple. "I think their journey is extremely personal, with — you know, what his mother experienced and how her life was so affected by the spotlight and by paparazzi."
