Garth Brooks just broke his own CMAs record with another Entertainer of the Year win

Updated

The 2019 CMA Awards brought forth some historic wins and surprising upsets.

Country music's biggest night brought together the genre's most notable names at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Wednesday night, in a ceremony that celebrated Music City's most beloved legends.

Garth Brooks walked away with Entertainer of the Year for a record-extending seventh time (he also won the most coveted award in country music in 1991, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2016 and 2017). Kenny Chesney has won the award the second most times, having won it four times.

Maren Morris, who went into the night as the most-nominated act with six nods, walked away with one of the ceremony's biggest awards, winning Album of the Year for her sophomore effort, "GIRL," and delivering an emotional speech dedicated late songwriter and frequent collaborator, Busbee.

Luke Combs pulled off two major upsets, besting the likes of Keith Urban and Chris Stapleton to win Male Vocalist of the year, while also winning "Song of the Year" for "Beautiful Crazy" over favorites "Rainbow" by Kacey Musgraves and Dan + Shay's "Tequila." Musgraves didn't walk away empty-handed, though: This year's winner of the Grammys' Album of the Year was awarded Female Vocalist and Music Video of the Year ("Rainbow").
