Jenny McCarthy will not co-host New Year's Eve broadcast in Times Square after 10 years on air

Who will co-host this year's New Year's Eve broadcast on ABC with Ryan Seacrest?

That's not clear yet, but we do know it won't be Jenny McCarthy, who's co-anchored alongside Seacrest for the past decade. McCarthy appeared on "Live with Kelly and Ryan" Tuesday to confirm she'll be absent from the festivities come December 31.

According to McCarthy, she decided to back out of "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" after her 17-year-old son asked if the family could "please stay home this year," adding that pretty soon, once he turns 18, "he's going to want nothing to do with me."

Another factor in the switch is McCarthy's "Masked Singer" schedule: Season 3 of the show, which features McCarthy as a judge, will film in December and January. The (inarguably bizarre) reality show aired season 1 in early 2019 and is currently airing season 2, so production is moving rapidly.

During the yearly New Year's Eve broadcast, McCarthy always shares a midnight kiss with husband Donnie Wahlberg — so this year, that smooch will take place inside their Chicago home.

The drama-free announcement was a clear contrast to 2017's messy fallout on CNN, when longtime co-host Kathy Griffin was axed from her spot alongside Anderson Cooper. Griffin was replaced by Andy Cohen, who is expected to return for the third time this winter.
