Ratings: ‘The Masked Singer’ season 2 premiere sheds 1.3 million viewers from season 1’s debut

Fox’s whacky hit anonymous singing competition “The Masked Singer” won Wednesday outright, though not by as large a margin as it did last season.

“Masked Singer” Season 2 started to a 2.5 rating/12 share and 7.9 million viewers. In early January 2019, Season 1 on Fox posted a massive 2.9 rating and 9.2 million total viewers.

Fox was first in ratings with a 2.5 rating/12 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 7.9 million, according to preliminary numbers. That was all “Masked Singer,” which occupied Fox’s whole two-hour primetime schedule.

CBS was second in ratings with a 1.2/6 and third in viewers with 5.3 million. The 90-minute “Survivor” season premiere from 8-9:30 p.m. averaged a 1.3/6 and 6.3 million viewers. From 9:30-11, the “Big Brother” season finale drew a 1.2/6 and 4.2 million viewers.

NBC was third in ratings with a 1.1/5 and second in viewers with 7.1 million, premiering new seasons of its “Chicago” shows. “Chicago Med” at 8 had a 1.0/5 and 7.4 million viewers. At 9, “Chicago Fire” got a 1.1/5 and 7.2 million viewers. “Chicago PD” at 10 received a 1.1/6 and 6.5 million viewers.

ABC was fourth in ratings with a 0.8/4 and in viewers with 4 million, returning four sitcoms and debuting Cobie Smulders’ new drama, “Stumptown.” “The Goldbergs” at 8 had a 1.0/5 and 4.5 million viewers. At 8:30, “Schooled” got a 0.8/4 and 3.4 million viewers. “Modern Family” at 9 received a 1.0/5 and 4 million viewers. At 9:30, “Single Parents” closed to comedy block with a 0.7/3 and 2.8 million viewers. “Stumptown” at 10 debuted to a 0.7/4 and 4.5 million viewers.

Univision was fifth in ratings with a 0.4/2 and in viewers with 1.3 million.

Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.3/2 and in viewers with 1 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.2/1 and in viewers with 607,000. Following a rerun, “Hypnotize Me” at 9 had a 0.1/1 and 449,000 viewers.
