Princess Beatrice's engagement photos have a touching twist you may have missed

Princess Beatrice is engaged!

Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday morning that Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter -- the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson -- is set to wed Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi sometime in 2020 and, along with the announcement, the family shared five engagement photos.

Three of the photos are in color and were actually taken by Beatrice's younger sister, Princess Eugenie!

"Beabea - wow! I'm so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo. It's been a long time coming and you two are meant to be," Eugenie wrote on Instagram, adding that the photos were taken "by me!!"

Mom "Fergie" shed light on the decision to have Eugenie help commemorate the special moment in her own Instagram post.

"I know what a mother feels so I have tears of joy. I am so proud of this sensational news. Andrew and I are just the luckiest people ever to have two great sons in law. @princesseugenie took the colour photographs as my girls are so close. Beatrice and Edo wanted her to capture this special moment," she said.

Two other photos, taken in black-and-white, released by the palace, were taken by Misan Harriman.

Along with the announcement of their engagement, Beatrice and Edoardo released a joint statement expressing their excitement over getting engaged after he proposed during a trip to Italy earlier this month.

"We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement. We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married," they said. "We share so many similar interests and values and we know that this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness."

Fergie and Andrew also released a statement together, saying, "We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride. We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and a loyal young man. We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future."

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi started dating sometime last fall.
