Emmys 2019: Viola Davis ditched her stilettos for platform sneakers before walking onstage

Other stars are physically aching today after a long night at the Emmys and its afterparties, but Viola Davis is probably feeling pretty good.

We all know just how painful an evening in stilettos can be, and Davis made a wise move to avoid that fate: As she made her way into the Microsoft Theater, Davis was paparazzi perfection in a black and ivory Alberta Ferretti gown, which she paired with black peep-toe pumps. But after making her way into the venue, Davis kicked off those heels, retiring them in favor of a pair of silver sneakers.

As she made her way onstage to present the Emmy for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, Davis was still wearing her gorgeous gown — and it looked just as stunning with platform sneaks on her feet.

Not only was Davis more comfortable, but she also skirted the active risk of taking a tumble on stage. Even veteran stiletto-wearer Kim Kardashian appeared to briefly stumble as she and Kendall Jenner made their way toward the microphone Sunday night.

The "How to Get Away with Murder" actress was nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series, but the statue went to Jodie Comer of "Killing Eve."

Davis was joined by her husband, Julius Tennon, for the big night. The two wed in 2003 and share 7-year-old son Genesis.
