Emmys 2019: Milo Ventimiglia brings parents as his dates after 'they declined' the last 2 years

Updated

Milo Ventimiglia finally convinced his parents to come to the Emmys with him.

While most people would jump at the chance to attend television's most important night, the "This Is Us" actor's parents "declined" their son's invitation to go to the ceremony for the past two years -- but they proved that the third time really is the charm and accepted his invitation this year.

Ventimiglia hit the Emmys red carpet on Sunday night alongside his mother, Carol, and his father, Peter, and he hilariously told E! News the story behind their appearance.

"My mom and dad are here," he said. "This is their first time. They declined the invite two years in a row, and this is the first time they wanted to be here."

"They've always been supportive of me," he continued. "To show them what this show is, is an experience."

His father then popped into the frame and said that "we are very proud" of their actor son, who first rose to fame on "Gilmore Girls" and has now won over the hearts of America again as Jack Pearson on the hit NBC series "This Is Us."

Milo went on to explain that he's learned to "lead with love" from his mother and father."

"My mom and dad are very loving people. They raised my sisters and I with that, with the grace that they have," he revealed. "I can’t look at them too much or I’ll start crying … We need to give examples of coming together and showing love. It’s such a strength to show love."

Milo Ventimiglia was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the 2019 Emmy Awards. Also nominated? His co-star, Sterling K. Brown.
