Sean Spicer's 'DWTS' debut — and his wild outfit — sparked uproar on Twitter

Sean Spicer's debut on "Dancing With the Stars" has caused quite the stir.

The former White House Press Secretary for Donald Trump rocked skintight, high-waisted pants and an eye-catching neon green ruffled shirt for his dance with pro partner Lindsay Arnold during the season 28 premiere on Monday night. Their song of choice? "Spice Up Your Life" by the Spice Girls.

Spicer was clearly game to poke fun at himself in the dance, before which a video package showed Arnold saying that "his dance ability is at a pre-pre-school level."

"He's definitely not a natural at it," she added, before getting a score of 12/30 from the show's judges.

While Spicer said that "it's nice to have the leader of the free world on your side," referencing President Trump tweeting his congratulations on landing the "DWTS" gig, judging by viewer reactions to his dance, Trump may be one of the few people rooting for him on the dance competition, with many people making fun of him for his choice of ensemble.

"Sean Spicer looks like a car dealership inflatable guy," one person tweeted, while another joked that "clearly the costume designer on #dwts is a Democrat."

"What’s the only thing more embarrassing than being the former White House Press Secretary under Trump?" another person tweeted. "Whatever this shirt Sean Spicer has on."

Others simply couldn't believe that they were seeing Spicer doing ballroom dance on national television.

There was another faction of viewers who couldn't help but recall the role that Spicer played in the Trump administration.

After journalist Yashar Ali tweeted a gif of Spicer's debut and wrote, "I'm sorry, I just don't see how it's worth it," fellow writer Wajahat Ali outlined details around Spicer's casting: "Sean Spicer got paid 6 figures for this. He's also a Harvard Kennedy fellow. He also got a book deal. He was also laughing it up at a DC party for journalists the day before the White House Correspondents Dinner. All will fail up. It's how this town works."

Not everyone was critical of Spicer's appearance, however. In addition to Bill Mitchell saying that he "rocked it" on "Dancing With the Stars," Gov. Mike Huckabee urged his followers to support Spicer on the show in order to force Hollywood into "en emotional meltdown."

In response to Huckabee's support, Spicer said, "clearly the judges aren't going to be with me. Let's send a message to #Hollywood that those of us who stand for #Christ won't be discounted. May God bless you."

Naturally, his tweet incited more divisive reactions. TV host Soledad O'Brien called him "ever-pathetic" for "trying to turn his bad dancing into some kind of symbol for Christ's message," while others told him not to "drag Jesus into this" and accused him of "gerrymanderinig Dancing With the Stars."

What did you think of Sean Spicer's "Dancing With the Stars" debut?
