VMAs 2019: Twitter is loving John Travolta's possible Taylor Swift mix-up

Updated

Easy mistake!

During the chaos of Taylor Swift's win for Video of the Year at the MTV VMAs, presenter John Travolta seemingly briefly confused Swift with drag queen Jade Jolie, who was also making her way onstage at the time. Jolie was one of the many LGBTQ stars featured in Swift's "You Need to Calm Down" video.

The cameras caught Travolta holding out the award toward Jolie, who no doubt resembled Swift in a blonde wig and bubblegum-pink dress. Jolie laughed off the moment and Travolta appeared to realize his mistake.

Moments earlier, Travolta and co-presenter Queen Latifah had joked onstage about working together in the movie musical "Hairspray," with Travolta noting that the last time he'd seen her, he'd been a drag queen himself.

He also poked fun at himself for famously mispronouncing Idina Menzel's name in 2014 while presenting at the Academy Awards. Hey, they're all a little embarrassing, but nothing's as bad as when "La La Land" was accidentally named Best Picture. Or when Steve Harvey crowned the wrong Miss Universe. (Is it just us, or has live TV gotten worse over time?)

Swift took home multiple awards Monday night for "You Need To Calm Down," the same song she performed live to open the show.
