Lindsey Vonn engaged to NHL player P.K. Subban

Lindsey Vonn is engaged!

The Olympic skier and NHL player P.K. Subban announced their engagement exclusively on Vogue.com on Friday, revealing that Subban popped the question at their home in Los Angeles last Wednesday, August 14.

The couple recounted the moment for the outlet, revealing that it happened right after Subban, who plays for the New Jersey Devils, purchased her an emerald ring at XIV Karats in Beverly Hills (her favorite color is green, and emerald is his birthstone).

"I got the ring and said, ‘You know what? I’m just going to do it home.’ Everything kind of came together on that day," he explained. "Everyone says the stars aligned -- well, it was actually a full moon. I was worried because I knew she would want to be dressed up and not in her pajamas, and it just so happened she had a business meeting, so she was fully dressed up."

"We never talked about it or looked at rings," Vonn explained of her disbelief in the moment, which happened in front of their three dogs. "But he gave me an emerald necklace at Christmas, and I loved it. I wouldn’t change the ring at all."

Vonn and Subban first met at the 2017 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Awards the day after that year's ESPYs, but they didn't start dating yet because the Olympian wasn't single at the time. Subban said that it was Vonn's younger sister, Karin, "who was working really, really hard for me" when he met the sisters at the kids' awards show.

"I was obviously interested in wanting to talk to Lindsey," he recalled. "But at the time, she was already dating [someone else], so I couldn't really speak to her."

The pair "spoke on the phone every day" for four months while Vonn was on a skiing tour, and she knew "right off the bat" that "he was different."

"But I’d been married before [to Thomas Vonn from 2007 until 2013], so I was pretty hesitant to let myself think that I could find someone that I would want to be married to again," she told Vogue. "After a few months of dating, I knew he was the one I wanted to be with, though. He makes me happy, and he’s so positive and energetic."

As for any wedding planning, Vonn said that they're more focused on an upcoming move across the country to New Jersey than picking out details for their nuptials.

"I just want to enjoy the moment and the engagement. We’re not in a big hurry to get married," she said. "It kind of depends on his playing schedule, and when we have time to sit down and go through it. I don’t want to stress him out because he has a big season coming."

"Lindsey’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. There are people in life that deserve to be with good people," Subban added. "They have that person who takes care of them and makes them smile, and she deserves to be with someone who loves her more than anything else in the world, and I do."
