Buckingham Palace slams 'untrue' Prince Andrew groping allegation

Buckingham Palace is coming out strong against a newly-revealed groping allegation against Prince Andrew.

NBC News reports that the British royal was named in a newly released deposition given by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein's alleged victims, related to a defamation lawsuit filed in 2015 against a former Epstein associate named Ghislaine Maxwell.

In the deposition from 2016, a woman named Johanna Sjoberg claimed that Andrew, who is Queen Elizabeth's second son, touched her breast while on a couch at Epstein's New York City apartment back in 2001. She also alleged that Maxwell forced her to have sex with Epstein.

Responding to the newly-surfaced allegation against Prince Andrew, Buckingham Palace released a statement to NBC News denying the claim.

"This relates to proceedings in the United States, to which The Duke of York is not a party," the statement read. "Any suggestion of impropriety with underage minors is categorically untrue."

NBC reports that the palace had previously denied other allegations that emerged from the 2015 case, which included Giuffre's claim that Maxwell also ordered her to have sex with the British royal.

"It is emphatically denied that the Duke of York had any form of sexual contact or relationship with [Giuffre]," Buckingham Palace said previously, according to The Guardian. "The allegations made are false and without any foundation."

Following Epstein's reported death by suicide on Saturday, one day after the Prince Andrew allegation became public, the Duke of York accompanied his mother, Queen Elizabeth, to church on Sunday. The significance of such a show of solidarity was not lost on royal watchers.
