Armie Hammer's wife on controversial viral video of their son: 'Def not the best move'

Updated

Armie Hammer is no stranger to social media backlash, and his latest post has elicited perhaps the biggest outcry yet.

The "Call Me By Your Name" actor famously walked away from Twitter after dealing with one too many controversies, but this time it's Instagram that's causing him headaches. Days ago, Hammer shared a video of his 2-year-old son sucking his toes, captioning it with a joke about a foot fetish: "This happened for a solid seven minutes," he added.

Although some fans found the clip endearing, many indicated that they found it disturbing, saying the content combined with the caption sexualized the child. Others said it was wrong to publicly share a video that the child may eventually find embarrassing.

Although Hammer hasn't responded to the fallout, Elizabeth Chambers, issued her own response with an Instagram comment: "It wasn't seven minutes. More like five seconds," she began.

She continued, "Our son likes to play with people's feet and I put the video on our family stream because this phase is an ongoing joke. Sharing the video on Instagram was def not the best move on A's part, but I can assure you that our children's safety and well-being is always our first priority."

The comment was later deleted.

Hammer and Chambers wed in 2010 and share two children.
