Terri Irwin reveals how late husband Steve would've reacted to daughter Bindi's engagement

Hours after Bindi Irwin announced that her longtime boyfriend, Chandler Powell, had popped the question on her 21st birthday, her mother, Terri, took to Twitter to share her own reaction to the exciting news -- and revealed how her late husband, Steve, would've reacted, as well.

"Best day ever! Chandler asked and beautiful @BindiIrwin said yes," she tweeted. "I am so very happy, and I know Steve would be too. Congratulations!!"

Steve Irwin died at the age of 44 back in September 2006 after the barb of a stingray pierced his heart.

On Wednesday morning, the late television personality's daughter had taken to social media to announce her engagement alongside two engagement photos.

"On my birthday I said 'yes' & 'forever' to the love of my life," she wrote. "Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you & every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure & true happiness. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose & unconditional love."

The couple released statements exclusively to People after sharing their news with the world.

"I am overjoyed to be sharing the news that Chandler and I are engaged! This has been the most special day celebrating my 21st birthday," Bindi said. "I’ve met my soulmate and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with Chandler. We’ve been together for nearly 6 years now and he’s my happily ever after."

"After Bindi’s birthday celebration at Australia Zoo, we had a photoshoot organized to celebrate her turning 21," Powell added. "Just before we started the shoot, I took her to a special part of Australia Zoo to ask the girl of my dreams to become my wife. These past five years together have been the best of my life and we look forward to a lifetime of magical moments to come."

Chandler, 22, and Irwin in Australia in 2013, where he was visiting for a professional wakeboarding competition. During his trip, he went to the Australia Zoo, where Bindi was working with her family.
