ABC confirms 'Marvel's Agents of SHIELD' will end with season 7

ABC is saying farewell to one of the longest-running series on its lineup.

The network confirmed Thursday that "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD" will wrap with season 7, bringing to an end Marvel's most successful-ever TV series.

With a 2013 premiere date, the show is one of the oldest still airing new episodes on ABC; only one other drama program launched earlier ("Grey's Anatomy," which began in 2005). The rest are more recent network additions.

A Thursday panel discussion at San Diego Comic-Con will likely address the announcement.

Marvel has a handful of TV series under its belt, with several programs currently streaming on Netflix and Hulu and more planned for the upcoming Disney+ platform.

In 2016, ABC canceled "Marvel's Agent Carter" after two seasons, and in 2017, it scrapped "Marvel's Inhumans" after just one.
