When is 'Friends' leaving Netflix? Sooner than fans would like, Netflix confirms

I'll be there for you... until January.

Netflix confirmed Tuesday that all ten seasons of "Friends" will be removed come 2020. The sitcom will find a home in HBO Max, WarnerMedia's new streaming service set to launch in spring of next year.

Twitter reacted with dismay and ridicule, with "Friends" fans threatening to ditch Netflix and others lambasting Netflix's $100 million deal to keep "Friends" on the platform through 2019.

The update comes weeks after Netflix announced that it will lose "The Office" to NBCUniversal's also not-yet-launched streaming service. Although Netflix is historically cagey about its viewership data, the two shows are widely known to be the most popular content currently available on the platform.

Nearly half of young Netflix viewers (49%) said in a recent THR/Morning Consult poll that they would cancel their subscriptions if the site were to lose "Friends," "The Office," Marvel movies and Disney shows and movies.

So far, Netflix has held onto Disney content — which includes Marvel — but those days will almost certainly grind to a halt when new streaming service Disney+ revs up to launch.
