Lori Loughlin 'regrets the khaki pantsuit': Details on her changing mentality amid college scandal

Lori Loughlin regrets the khaki pantsuit.

As the former "Fuller House" star waits for her next court date in the college admissions scandal, sources say that she's reflecting on her past mistakes as well as preparing a "vigorous defense against the charges."

One particular regret she had? Her much-maligned first appearance at a Boston courthouse back in April, when she rocked a glamorous look and smiled on her way into her first hearing alongside husband Mossimo Giannulli. The previous day, she had cheerfully signed autographs for fans after touching down in Boston.

"Lori regrets wearing the khaki pantsuit and smiling so much on her way into court," an insider told Us Weekly this week. "But she didn't want to walk into the courthouse looking ashamed and guilty. She believes she's innocent and she wouldn't have pled not guilty if she didn't think she wasn't guilty."

Hollywood stars Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were among 13 parents scheduled to appear in federal court in Boston Wednesday for the first time since they were charged last month in a massive college admissions cheating scandal. They were among 50 people - including coaches, powerful financiers, and entrepreneurs - charged in a brazen plot in which wealthy parents allegedly schemed to bribe sports coaches at top colleges to admit their children. Many of the parents allegedly paid to have someone else take the SAT or ACT exams for their children or correct their answers, guaranteeing them high scores. SEE ALSO: Lori Loughlin 'strongly believes' she shouldn't face jail time

Loughlin and Giannulli are both facing charges of mail fraud and money laundering conspiracy. They could face up to 20 years in prison for each charge if they're convicted. They're being accused of spending $500,000 in bribe money to get their daughters, Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose, into the University of Southern California under the false pretenses that they were recruited for crew.

The couple has pleaded not guilty after rejecting a plea deal that included guaranteed (but lesser) jail time. That's a decision that she reportedly does not regret.

"[Lori] still believes she did the right thing by rejecting the guilty plea," a People source said, while another insider added that the couple is "mounting a vigorous defense against the charges" against them.

"Lori in particular has become extremely well-versed in the case," the insider went on. "She's an active participant in her own defense, feels like she's got a valid defense, and that when all the evidence comes out, she won't be found guilty."

It's no surprise that Loughlin has become an expert in her own case considering how much is on the line for her. Her career has already taken a hit: She was reportedly written out of the fifth and final season of Netflix's "Fuller House" and the Hallmark Channel severed ties with her after years of having her star in its films.

"Her whole life focus has changed drastically," another source told People. "It consists of waiting around for the next court date and planning her legal defense."

No date has been set for Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli's next court appearance.
