'The Jeffersons' live on ABC: Watch Jennifer Hudson's incredible theme song performance

Updated

Finally got our piece of the pie!

It's hard to do a truly iconic song justice, but Jennifer Hudson delivered Wednesday night with a spot-on performance of "Movin' On Up" during ABC's "Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear's 'All in the Family' and 'The Jeffersons.'"

Wearing '70s-style gold hoops and accompanied by hand-clapping background singers, the Grammy and Oscar winner danced her way through some familiar sets as she belted the "Jeffersons" theme.

The audience excitedly clapped along, creating one of the most high-energy moments of the night. After Hudson's rendition, Wanda Sykes and Jamie Foxx took the stage as Louise and George Jefferson.

"Movin' On Up" was originally made famous by Ja'net DuBois. Although DuBois never appeared on "The Jeffersons," she was a regular on "Good Times," another one of Norman Lear's classics.

"The Jeffersons," a spinoff of "All in the Family," premiered in 1975 and ran for 10 years.

Earlier in the broadcast, Woody Harrelson and Marisa Tomei tackled "Those Were the Days," the theme to "All in the Family." The 90-minute special was hosted by Lear and Jimmy Kimmel.
