Lauren Alaina reveals she met her new boyfriend on Instagram after ending engagement

Lauren Alaina is back in the dating game.

The "American Idol" runner-up, 24, and her high school sweetheart ended their engagement in January 2019, calling it quits after six years together. But she's found someone new, the singer revealed on "The Bobby Bones Show" this week — and she met him through Instagram.

The guy in question is comedian John Crist, who took notice of Alaina after she responded to one of his comedy videos. Boasting a million followers, Crist has built a major following through social media, but something about this particular online exchange felt special.

"I too grew up performing in a church in Georgia," he wrote.

The comic has joked about their 11-year age gap onstage (he's 35 and she's 24), but it didn't really land, he admitted.

Alaina and her longtime boyfriend, Alex Hopkins, said in January they had "grown into very different people over the last six years."
