Tim Conway's wife and daughter fought in court over his medical care in the final months of his life

Actor Tim Conway, who died Tuesday at 85, was, without a doubt, best known for making audiences and co-stars alike laugh.

However, in his final months, Conway also made headlines for the ongoing legal issues between Charlene Conway, his wife since 1984, and his daughter Kelly Conway — whose mother is Mary Anne Dalton, the star’s first wife — over his medical care.

In August, Kelly filed documents to become named her father’s conservator and take control of his treatment, including giving him his medications for dementia. She simultaneously asked for a temporary restraining order against her step-mother Charlene.

Kelly disagreed with Charlene’s plan to “move [Tim] out of the excellent skilled nursing facility he is currently at” and admit him somewhere without “registered nurses at all times and his 24-hour caregiver and speech therapist [to help with swallowing],” according to both People and The Blast.

She said her father was “almost entirely unresponsive” and couldn’t “properly provide for his personal needs for physical health, food, and clothing.”

The legal fight continued when Charlene accused Kelly of having relied on a false medical record and breached her father’s medical privacy.

Kelly’s request for a temporary restraining order was granted, but Charlene said she had never planned to move her husband from his medical facility in the first place.

A Los Angeles judge later ruled against Kelly, reportedly noting that the star was hospitalized at the time for brain surgery.

Charlene was appointed conservator for her husband in March, after the court found that a conservator for Tim was, in fact, necessary.

A publicist for Kelly told USA Today that she was “very happy with the outcome after more than a year of fighting to keep her dad safe and sound. She is now allowed to see him and is permitted to meet with Tim’s healthcare professionals.”

Upon the Emmy winner’s death, Kelly issued a statement:

“The love he gave us, and the laughter he gave the world will never be replaced, but will be remembered forever. He is at peace now but I will miss him every second of every day until we meet again in heaven.”

And she was hardly the only one missing him, as many celebs paid tribute.
