Quincy Jones mourns 'beloved' former wife Peggy Lipton after 'Mod Squad' star's death: 'Love is eternal'

Quincy Jones has posted an emotional tribute to ex-wife Peggy Lipton following the Mod Squad and Twin Peaks actress’s death on May 11. She was 72.

The former couple’s two daughters, actresses Kidada and Rashida Jones, broke the news of Lipton’s death from cancer the following day.

“She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side,” they said in a statement. “We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her. We can't put all of our feelings into words right now but we will say: Peggy was, and will always be our beacon of light, both in this world and beyond. She will always be a part of us."

Now Jones — who was married to Lipton from 1974 to 1990, though they separated in 1986 — is sharing his grief. The legendary music producer posted a clip from his 2018 Netflix documentary, Quincy, which includes footage from their wedding and voiceovers from both him and his late ex.

The 86-year-old added a message noting that, while he and Lipton had split, they remained close.

“There is absolutely no combination of words that can express the sadness I feel after losing my beloved Peggy Lipton ... my wife of 14 years,” he wrote. “We shared many, many beautiful memories, and most importantly, we share two incredible daughters.

“Regardless of the paths that our lives took us on, I can say with the utmost certainty, that love is eternal. Thank you all for the love and support you've shown me and my family.”

Jones also included a statement from their daughters thanking fans for their support and requesting that donations may be made in Lipton’s memory to the hospice where she received “great care.”

Lipton’s interracial marriage to Jones, 14 years her senior, sparked racist backlash, which she detailed in her 2005 memoir, Breathing Out. The book also revealed her 2004 treatment for colon cancer, the disease which would ultimately claim her life 15 years later.
