Hollywood reacts to the death of Doris Day

Legendary American singer, actress and animal activist, Doris Day, died Monday at the age of 97. Day was best known for her hit 1945 song "Sentimental Journey" and her starring role as "Calamity Jane,"  in the 1953 eponymous film.

Her honey-voiced vocals and blond hairdo made Day one of the most recognized and famous stars in the 1950s and 60s. Celebrities and fellow actors have all taken to social media to pay tribute to the Hollywood legend.

Katie Couric, Seth MacFarlane, William Shatner and George Takei all shared their condolences. See the emotional outpour in the gallery below.

The Doris Day Animal Foundation confirmed the death of the Hollywood star revealing she was surrounded by her close friends at her home in Carmel Valley.
