Adele breaks silence on split from Simon Konecki -- sort of

Updated

Adele took to Instagram on Wednesday and seemed to cheekily reference recent news of her unexpected split from husband, Simon Konecki.

The "Hello" hitmaker shared a hilarious meme with side-by-side photos of herself -- one of her in tears at an awards show and another of her rapping during her widely-watched "Carpool Karaoke" segment.

"When you catch yourself in your feelings then you remember who you are," the meme's caption read.

It's the singer's first post on Instagram since news of her breakup made headlines nearly two weeks ago, when Adele's reps confirmed rumors of her separation with a brief statement.

"Adele and her partner have separated," the statement read. "They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment."

Since the announcement, sources close to Adele, 30, and Konecki, 45, revealed that the former couple actually separated nearly nine months ago.

Their "relationship evolved and they became more like friends than lovers," an insider told Us Weekly. "They realized the romantic love was no longer there. They're disappointed, but it just didn't work out."

Adele and Simon Konecki share one son, Angelo, 6, and are committed to continuing to raise him together as co-parents.

The singer is reportedly working on her fourth studio album, which could be released as early as this fall.
