#FreeBritney: Is Britney Spears being held in mental health facility against her will?

Britney Spears' fans were nothing but supportive when it was revealed at the beginning of April that the singer had voluntarily checked in to a mental health facility for 30 days to help herself better cope with her father's serious health issues.

But over the past week or so, their support took a different tone as the #FreeBritney campaign gained steam when an anonymous, supposed paralegal called into the Britney's Gram podcast to claim that Britney has actually been in the facility since mid-January and is there against her will.

In a voicemail played on the podcast, the alleged paralegal who claims to have worked on Britney's conservatorship says that her father, Jamie, who is her legal conservator, noticed that the singer was apparently not taking her prescribed medication and threatened to cancel her planned Domination residency in Las Vegas and send her to a mental health institution.

When allegedly refused to keep taking the medication, Jamie pulled the plug on the residency and had Britney blame it on his sickness, which she did with an emotional Instagram post on January 4.

"Britney has been in the mental facility since mid-January," the voicemail says in part. "There is no end date particularly in sight for this stay at this mental facility to end. She did not want to go."

The podcast hosts claim to have verified the source's identity, but there has been no other confirmation on the allegations. That being said, Britney's mother, Lynne, who got divorced from Jamie in 2002 before they reconciled years later, has been fanning the flames of the theory by liking Instagram comments left by fans on her page.

"I really hope you are supporting Britney in trying to end [her] conservatorship," read one comment that she liked. "I really hope your ailing ex husband isn’t keeping your daughter somewhere against her will."

"I hope she’s doing ok & can finally be able to [be] free she deserves it!! We know," read another.

Lynne also posted a cryptic Instagram post on Tuesday that had a lot of fans guessing: "When God’s warriors go down on their knees, the battle is not over; it has just begun."

Since going through a very public meltdown in 2008, Britney has been under the legal conservatorship of her father, meaning that me can make financial, legal, business and medical decisions on her behalf.

The singer was spotted last week getting her hair done during an outing from her stay at the mental health facility where she's been living. Eyewitnesses said "she seemed fine and content."

"Several people worked on Britney's hair and were very quick and efficient to get her out of there as fast as possible," eyewitnesses told E! News. "She seemed fine and content... [She] was definitely excited to get her hair done."
