Wendy Williams speaks out after divorce news: 'Everybody has things in their life that they’re embarrassed to share'

Wendy Williams' candid, nothing's-off-limit attitude toward celebrity gossip is one of her chief calling cards. And now, she acknowledged Monday, her "Hot Topics" segment motto —"Their business is our business" — applies to her own drama, too.

“It’s crazy ’cause now my business is your business,” Williams said. “It’s kind of funny. Turnabout's a fair game. I get it.”

Less than a week after filing for divorce from Kevin Hunter, her husband of more than two decades, Williams told her audience that living in a sober house has given her clarity on the direction of her life: “Everybody has things in their life that they’re embarrassed to share with the world, or they’re frightened to share with the world, or they’re not ready to share with the world and addressing my sobriety, my addiction, head on has really helped me sort out every single compartment of my life," she said.

Williams said she is soon moving out of the sober living facility.

Williams also noted that while spending time alone in the sober house — "in a room with no TV and four gray walls all day" — she mapped out a plan for "a whole new life that I planned for myself and my son." She and her estranged husband share 19-year-old son Kevin Hunter Jr.

Although the ex-couple has a history of marital ups and downs, Williams asserted countless times that their relationship was unbreakable. But behind the scenes, she was facing mounting troubles and announced a hiatus from her show in late 2018. Insiders claimed that the private turmoil was directly tied to problems with her husband.

Despite the rumors, Williams continued to defend her marriage up until as recently as early March 2019. But that seemingly changed later in the month when Hunter allegedly welcomed a baby with his mistress of ten years.

After those updates emerged, Williams reportedly relapsed on alcohol and was rushed to a hospital in late March.
