Hilaria Baldwin is 'most likely experiencing a miscarriage': 'I don’t want to have to pretend anymore'

Ten months after welcoming her fourth child, Hilaria Baldwin revealed Thursday that she is currently pregnant with her fifth, but she is "most likely experiencing a miscarriage."

"There is so much secrecy during the first trimester," Hilaria, 35, captioned a mirror photo with her hand on her bare stomach. "This works for some, but I personally find it to be exhausting ... I have to pretend everything is just fine -- and it truly isn't. I don't want to have to pretend anymore. I hope you understand."

Hilaria went on to describe the current condition of her unborn child: "The embryo has a heartbeat, but it isn't strong, and the baby isn't growing very much. So we wait -- and this is hard," she wrote. "So much uncertainty ... but the chances are very, very small that this is a viable pregnancy."

She noted that she hoped her honesty would help reduce stigma about miscarriages.

"My husband and my four very healthy babies help me keep it together and have the perspective of how truly beautiful life is, even when it occasionally seems ugly," she said, adding that she feels "a bit fragile."

Alec, 60, joked in March 2019 that while Hilaria was ready for another baby, he was "not up for the challenge," citing his age as the reason for his hesitation.

The Baldwins had not yet confirmed that they were expecting another child. On Wednesday, the night before Hilaria's announcement, both attended the FIT Awards Gala in New York.
