Celebrities reinvent the powersuit

Updated

Powersuits are nothing new -- but the elevated red carpet version is quickly replacing a time when gowns and after-party dresses are the only obvious option.

Whether it be Lady Gaga's oversized Marc Jacobs menswear suit she wore to ELLE's Women In Hollywood event or the lineup of looks Blake Lively so famously wears so well, our favorite style icons are ditching their pretty dresses and wearing the pants.

Although timeless trousers and boyish blazers will never go out of style, it's the fashion-forward and fearless approach to the monochromatic separates that we are loving so much. Case in point: Katie Holmes tailored Prada suit featuring feathered cuffs or Hailey Baldwin's street approach paired with a bold neon turtleneck.

This powerful form of dressing is taking celebs from the Grammys (I.e Miley Cyrus in vintage Mugler) to movie premieres and showing up in day-to-day looks, styled back with sneakers -- à la Zendaya.

Our favorite? Cindy Crawford sporting a billowed yet polished shirtless tuxedo to the Cosentino's Los Angelas opening.

Ahead, get ready to see some of the most well-dressed women on-and-off the carpet including Nicole Kidman, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kourtney Kardashian and more.
