Why 'RHONY' star Sonja Morgan felt 'very uncomfortable' during the cast's Hamptons trip (Exclusive)

Updated

Sonja Morgan is caught in the middle on "The Real Housewives of New York" this season.

During the cast's recent trip to the Hamptons on the hit Bravo show's current eleventh season, Morgan stayed at Ramona Singer's house with Tinsley Mortimer and Dorinda Medley, but went to dinner with Bethenny Frankel, Luann de Lesseps and Barbara Kavovit, despite clear divisions between both sides.

Instead of it coming off as playing both sides of the field, though, it's become clear that Sonja genuinely doesn't know which side to choose -- and maybe she doesn't have to!

"It was very uncomfortable for me in the Hamptons, because I wanted to stay with Bethenny, but I thought, 'Let's give her some space in case she really needs it, because she's going through the ups and downs of mourning Dennis,'" Sonja told AOL exclusively during her CoolSculpting Bikini Denial campaign launch. "The blondes wanted me to stay with them and be the straw that stirs the drink."

She went on to explain that she feels a bit of pressure when it comes to making sure that her co-stars know she's being her true self and not just telling them what she thinks they want to hear.

"Sometimes I feel like I want people to know that I'm real and authentic," Sonja explained to AOL. "But when you're in the middle, it's hard. I don't want someone to ever feel like I'm playing them."

And, at the end of the day, Sonja considers the relationships on the current cast of "RHONY" to be built on genuine connection on the backs of intense, real issues in their lives. In addition to Bethenny suddenly losing her fiancé, Dennis Shields, Luann continues to conquer her addiction as she strives to maintain her sobriety.

"There's a lot of meat on the bones here, because these are really solidified, deep relationships with girls that really care for each other," she explained to us. "But, we trust each other to go there and tell us to fix ourselves and then we give it right back. Your life is like our life, and we don’t hide anything. I certainly don’t."

"We just jump right into it this season, and I think that’s because our relationships are so deep and solidified and real. New Yorkers are real and there’s no BS'ing," Sonja went on. "We can go there and we trust each other to go there, so if we want to vent on each other like sisters, we do that. But what comes with that is, Bethenny lost Dennis and it was especially tough because her daughter was part of that dynamic and he was her go-to guy. Luann fell off the wagon, and it was embarrassing for her, but we’re there for each other when we need each other."

That being said, the "RHONY" ladies aren't afraid to call it like it is.

"But also, we can really go at it and we use our words, because we’re New Yorkers -- and they cut!" Sonja added with a laugh.

During her ten seasons on "Real Housewives," Sonja has consistently proven that she doesn't have a filter and is open to sharing almost everything about her life on the show. Continuing in that spirit of being an open book, the reality star is also opening up about a fat-reduction treatment that she recently underwent for the sake of her summer bikini body.

"I love my body. I'm juicy and I'm confident, but I wanted to focus on the area where my swimsuits cut in, so I had CoolSculpting done and I fell in love," she told us during our sit-down interview. "It wasn't that I was unhappy with my body, but I just wanted this one spot targeted."

"Everything in moderation," she added. "I'm very conservative, so I look into everything, but I don't do everything."
