Trump's White House called out for Spotify account: 'Seems about white'

The White House has an official Spotify account, and social media users are calling out the lack of diversity in the artists that it follows.

As pointed out by Music News Facts on Twitter, the verified streaming account only follows six artists on the platform: Miley Cyrus, Adele, Justin Bieber, Queen, Coldplay and Katy Perry.

Immediately, Twitter users noticed that all six of the musical acts that the Spotify account follows are white: "seems about white," "white indeed," "the caucasity," "all good artists, but all white" and "all white... shocking" were among the replies to the tweet reporting the news.

Some of the names on the list also caught users off-guard, especially considering that both Perry and Cyrus were staunch Hillary Clinton supporters during the 2016 presidential election. Cyrus has continued to be one of Trump's most vocal celebrity detractors throughout his presidency.

Though it's unclear when exactly the account was established, it does have nearly 60,000 followers on Spotify with no public-facing playlists.

Trump's White House's Spotify presence is a complete 180 from Obama's. Back in the summer of 2015, Obama and the White House announced a partnership that involved the 44th President of the United States curating seasonal playlists on the streaming platform, starting with two summer playlists for day and night that featured Motown artists, Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Beyoncé, Coldplay and many more acts.
