Michael Cohen could serve prison time alongside famous criminals

Michael Cohen could serve his three-year prison sentence alongside some other famous law-breakers.

President Trump's former lawyer was sentenced to three years in federal prison and ordered to pay a $50,000 fine back in December for a variety of crimes, including tax fraud and his arrangement of payments to silence Trump's alleged mistresses during the 2016 election. He's set to start his prison sentence on May 6, 2019.

Page Six's Richard Johnson reports that a judge recommended that Cohen serve his time at the Federal Correctional Institution Otisville, in New York state, which is a minimum-security prison where "Jersey Shore" star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and Fyre Festival organizer Billy McFarland are currently serving time. McFarland was famously interviewed for the recent Hulu documentary, "Fyre Fraud."

"It's not fancy. They live in trailers," a lawyer told Johnson of the facility. "But there are no walls, no bars. Visiting is very lax and lenient. When the weather is nice, families come up and picnic."

The Page Six report also notes that it's possible, under Rule 35(b) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, Cohen could avoid prison time altogether "if he cooperates with prosecutors." Johnson talked to a source who is "betting he doesn't go to jail at all."

At the end of February, during his widely-watched and discussed testimony before Congress about his time as Donald Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen mentioned his daughter, Samantha, multiple times.
