Meghan Markle to lose yet another staff member before giving birth

Updated

Meghan Markle is losing her third staffer in recent months, delivering another blow to the newly-minted royal as she prepares to welcome her first child.

The Daily Mail's Richard Eden reported on Tuesday that the Duchess of Sussex's assistant Amy Pickerill will leave her post after Meghan moves from Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage at Windsor Castle in the coming weeks. Eden referred to Pickerill as the duchess' "right-hand woman."

"Amy is leaving," a source told the outlet, noting that she's leaving the royal family and moving overseas. "It's very sad for her colleagues, as she is a really popular member of staff."

The report called Pickerill's sudden resignation as a "shock" because she was expected to succeed Samantha Cohen, who will step down as Duchess Meghan's private secretary once she welcomes her first child with Prince Harry later this spring. She's been with the royal family for 17 years.

Pickerill is the third staffer of Meghan's to leave since the fall. In addition to the announcement that Cohen is exiting her role, the former "Suits" actress' PA Melissa Toubati quit after less than six months in her job back in November.

Though her decision to leave comes as a surprise to many, Pickerill isn't leaving Meghan and Harry high and dry: A friend told the Daily Mail that "she has agreed to stay on and help them with the birth of the baby and organize their new household, but will then move on."

Meghan Markle is currently pregnant with her first child and is expected to give birth around late April.
