Lori Loughlin deactivates Instagram, Twitter as critics deride her for allegedly paying $500k to get daughters into USC

Lori Loughlin deactivated her personal Instagram and Twitter accounts on Tuesday afternoon as fans flooded the pages with reactions to the college admissions scandal that led to a warrant for Loughlin's arrest.

While many served up jokes and jeers, others expressed disappointment in the behavior of a celebrity they admired. Interestingly, the name "Aunt Becky," her character on "Full House," was trending on Twitter above Loughlin's real name.

"This makes me sick," one person wrote, tagging both Loughlin and actress Felicity Huffman, who was also charged Tuesday, in her tweet. "I see how hard my kids have worked to get into their preferred colleges. The spots these people have bought takes away spots for those students who truly deserve it. These parents should be ashamed of themselves."

Others called out Loughlin for not "practicing what she preaches," as the actress often posted inspirational quotes: "There are more important things than money," Loughlin tweeted in February of last year. "Like doing the right thing. Words to live by."

A warrant for the arrest of both Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, was served Tuesday at their California home. A spokesperson for the US Attorney's office in Massachusetts said Loughlin was "out of the country" this morning and was "contacted by federal authorities and told to turn herself in."

The couple's two daughters are both currently enrolled at the University of Southern California, and it reportedly cost Loughlin and Giannulli a cool $500,000 to make that happen. They are accused of agreeing to doctor photos and documents to make it appear that their daughters rowed crew, leading to athletics-based acceptances from the university.

19-year-old Olivia Jade, who bears a strong physical resemblance to her mother, has become a social media star in recent years. Her Instagram remains intact as of mid-afternoon Tuesday, allowing users to comment their jokes and criticism of her allegedly fraudulent acceptance into USC.

"Imagine being so rich and so dumb that your parents have to pay half a million dollars for you to get accepted to college," one chided.

Another wrote, adding alarm clock emojis, "Time for crew practice. Wake up wake up."

Loughlin's other daughter set her Instagram page to private.
