Luke Perry's daughter pays tribute to her mom, Minnie Sharp, 'the rock for everybody grieving in this family right now'

Luke Perry’s daughter, Sophie, wants people to know that, yes, her dad absolutely was amazing. But her mom is, too.

The 18-year-old, who raced home from Africa to her TV star father’s death bed last week to say goodbye after he suffered a massive stroke, posted a tribute to mother Minnie Sharp on Instagram Friday. Sharp was married to Perry from 1993 to 2003 and co-parented two children with him, also including Jack, 21.

“You all know my dad is a super star, but I just want to share for a moment that I got really f***ing lucky in the parental department because this is my mom Minnie,” the teen wrote. “Who also happens to be my best friend. Wow, how cliché, I know.”

Sophie, with curls just like her mom’s, continued, “She is the rock for everybody grieving in this family right now. She’s the toughest and sweetest and most amazing woman I or anyone else has ever met.”

Perry went on to wonder, “How did I get so lucky to have two icons for parents? I love you mom and I could not get through this absolute sh** situation without you. None of us could.”

As she posted, Perry realized it was International Women’s Day, making the post about her “kick-ass mama” feel even more fitting.

Sharp, the daughter of Year of Living Dangerously screenwriter Alan Sharp, had appeared in the movie Teen Wolf Too but was working outside showbiz when she met Perry. He told Entertainment Weekly that they were introduced by a mutual friend, debunking the tabloid rumor that she caught his attention by mailing him her bra during his early days of Beverly Hills, 90210 mega stardom. When they started dating, she was working as a paralegal (and prior to that she was a furniture saleswoman), but became the envy of many screaming young girls when she and Perry tied the knot at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills in 1993. (Among the 50 guests were his co-stars Jason Priestley, Brian Austin Green and James Eckhouse.)

The pair welcomed Jack in 1998 and Sophie in 2000, but divorced in 2003. It was seemingly a non-dramatic split and the pair shared custody. And Sharp was by Perry’s side with their kids and the rest of his family — including Perry’s fiancée, Wendy Madison Bauer — when he died Monday as a result at the age of 54.

Sophie, who was in Malawi when her father was hospitalized, previously thanked her dad’s fans and her friends for their support during the difficult time. The Instagram post was accompanied by a photo of her with her father.

He had popped up in her feed prior, including a prom photo from June.

Sophie’s brother, Jack, a wrester who goes by Jungle Boy, also posted a tribute to his dad, saying he learned so much from him and inspired him.
