'Nashville' is officially in development to become a Broadway musical

"Nashville" is headed to New York City.

The hit musical series, which has aired on ABC, CMT and Hulu over the years, is getting the Broadway treatment, Deadline reports. Lionsgate is working to develop a musical adaption with producer Scott Delman, whose Broadway credits include "Book of Mormon" and "Mean Girls."

While the production will not feature any songs from the original show, it will "deliver Broadway's first score of true contemporary country music," Delman said.

"Nashville" premiered in 2012 with Connie Britton at the helm as an A-list country singer past her heyday and Hayden Panettiere as a star on the rise. The show's final episode aired in July 2018.

Details about casting, production or ticket sales for "Nashville" on Broadway have not yet been released.
