Meghan McCain doubles down on late-term abortion in fiery debate on 'The View'

After an explosive episode of The View, Meghan McCain continued to call out Democrats for supporting “infanticide,” after a majority of Democratic senators voted against the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

“I stand by what I said this morning, if the Democratic Party wants to be the party of late term abortion and infanticide, they won’t just lose — history will judge them for what they did,” she tweeted Tuesday.

A discussion of the place of abortion in the Democratic Party’s platform for the upcoming 2020 presidential election was discussed on the ABC show Tuesday, with a passionate contribution from McCain. The 34-year-old View co-host began by talking about how the U.S. Senate had failed to pass a Republican-sponsored bill that would have increased criminal penalties for doctors who do not try to resuscitate babies who survive third-trimester abortions.

“Ben Sasse authored the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This act would punish any doctor who fails to provide medical care to a child born alive after an attempted abortion. Every single Democrat except three of them voted [against the bill] yesterday,” McCain said, before rattling off the names of the Democrats and 2020 presidential hopefuls — like Sens. Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and Amy Klobuchar, who voted against the measure Monday.

“So that means these Democrats don’t believe that a baby born after a botched abortion should receive medical care,” McCain continued, adding, “This is an example” of “just how extreme the left has gone.”

“If Democrats want to win an election going forward, are you going to be the party of late-term abortion? The party of infanticide?” McCain asked, as her colleagues tried to jump in. “Let me finish, please. Is this the platform you’re going to have? Because when you’re talking about children and being pro-life, this is well out of the mainstream of where Americans are at.”

McCain then brought up Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who recently called it a “legitimate question” to ask whether it is acceptable for people to continue having children amid the concern over global warming.

“And when I hear AOC saying that, I actually think Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, they are answering her,” McCain continued. “I believe AOC is the leader of the party, and if you think that is how you win back the White House, I’m here to tell you, I spend a lot of time in red states, I’m from a red state: That is a losing argument.”

Her co-host Sunny Hostin — who is also opposed to abortion — interjected to say that she wanted to “push back” on her co-host’s argument, but McCain didn’t let her get a word in.

“Meghan, let her tell her side, please,” Joy Behar objected, in an attempt to moderate the discussion.

“It’s disgusting. It’s infanticide,” McCain replied.

“The bill that the Senate Dems blocked yesterday was to provide medical care for infants who survived failed abortions,” Hostin said, before she was quickly interrupted. “Now one thing is — ”

“So those babies should be left on the table?” interrupted McCain.

“Is she going to be able to tell her side for this or not?” Behar asked again.

McCain groaned and sighed as Hostin tried to make her point, and Behar called a commercial break. When they returned, Hostin was able to give her rebuttal without interruption.

Hostin admitted that the topic was difficult, but added that legally speaking, the reason the bill that Senate Democrats blocked Tuesday was blocked, “is because Dems felt there wasn’t a need for a new law, because it’s already required that medical care for infants born alive need be provided.” She went on to say that Monday’s proposed bill called for all babies born alive be immediately moved to a hospital, which she said is not always a safe option.

“So that is one of the reasons the Democrats also voted against the bill. Passing the bill would impose legal and criminal penalties on doctors who don’t comply with moving the infant, even if it isn’t in the best interests of the infant,” Hostin continued. “It’s extremely rare that this sort of failed abortion happens. And even in the case when it happens, doctors are required to make sure that the baby receives medical treatment.”

McCain had the final word: “But all pro-life women know exactly what I’m saying, exactly what I meant. If the Democratic Party wants to be the party of infanticide, that is their choice.”

“We got it, now we’re talking about the Kardashians,” Behar interjected.
