George Stephanopoulos solidifies future at ABC with multimillion-dollar deal

George Stephanopoulos is staying put at ABC -- and getting paid a fortune to do so.

Page Six reported this week that the "Good Morning America" anchor recently signed a new deal that extends his contract with ABC News for four more years. As part of the agreement, Stephanopoulos is set to rake in between $15 million and $18 million per year, making the total contract worth upwards of $70 million.

The beloved anchor has been at ABC since 2002, but he was being heavily courted by other networks before ultimately deciding to solidify his future at the network he's called home for nearly two decades.

It was CNN and CBS that were reportedly trying to woo Stephanopoulos to jump ship, with CBS News reportedly offering him Jeff Glor's coveted "CBS Evening News" anchor position, which has been rumored to be in jeopardy amid sinking ratings for months. Glor has held the gig for about a year, and CBS called the claim "not true."

The Page Six report claims that Stephanopoulos "seriously considered" heading to CBS, where longtime friend Susan Zirinsky was named president last month.

"That made it even more real," an insider explained. "CBS could have been a great platform for him."

Ultimately, the news vet decided to stay at ABC because it "has been his home for 20-something years" and it "offered him a sh-t ton of money."
