Gayle King's gorgeous daughter is engaged: 'Guess what happened!'

Updated

Gayle King's daughter is engaged -- and she's so excited, she broke the news before her daughter could!

"Guess what happened to fav daughter," Gayle wrote on Instagram as she congratulated daughter Kirby Bumpus on her engagement to Virgil Miller, calling her future son-in-law a "very lucky guy."

Kirby had no idea her mom and brother were in town when her boyfriend popped the question: "She thought Will and I were in LA," Gayle wrote alongside a selfie with both of her children.

Take a look at that ring -- nice job, Virgil! The groom-to-be is the chief-of-staff to Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.)

Kirby, who is Oprah Winfrey's goddaughter, was completely surprised by the proposal, revealing on her own Instagram that she thought she was heading out to a normal party. "Please tell me how my momma posted before I did," she wrote with a laughing emoji.

Gayle's coworkers and friends were quick to write their congratulations online. Maria Shriver commented "OMG so exciting" while Rita Wilson said, "What wonderful happy news!"

And "A Wrinkle In Time" director Ava DuVernay could hardly contain herself, writing, "Wow! Wow! Wow!"

Good genes run in the family, and not just physically: Kirby is a former Obama administration aide, and brother William received his MBA from Stanford in 2017.

Gayle and ex-husband William Bumpus wed in 1982 and split in 1993.
