When Nicholas Hoult signed on to be on "The Favourite," he had no idea what his character's look would entail -- and he was in for a big surprise.
The film takes place in the early 18th century during Queen Anne's rule of England and, at the time, men dressed in a much more over-the-top manner than women did, meaning that Hoult would be decked out in full makeup, ruffles and frills throughout filming.
In a clip exclusively available on AOL ahead of the film's home release, Hoult discusses his appearance in the movie.
"I turned up and Nadia [Stacey], the makeup designer, was like, 'Has anyone spoken to you about your look for this film?'" he recalled. "And I was like, 'No, why?' And she was like, 'Well it's quite an extreme one.'"
"I didn't realize," he added with a laugh.

His cast mates were just as surprised, and perhaps more amused, than the actor was with his look. Rachel Weisz called him a "ravishing supermodel" when in his full garb.
"I love it, I think he looks amazing," Emma Stone says in the clip. "It's also just fun in this movie, because the men are so made-up."
